Getting to the workshop
About 2.5 km in a straight line from the workshop on Avenue 8, Salmabad.
The workshop is about 2.5 km north of the centre of A'ali in a straight line.
Shaikh Zayed Highway is the east–west road across the top of A'ali, and it connects to both Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway and Shaikh Salman Highway. Taking Shaikh Salman Highway northwards brings you to the Salmabad and Isa Town Gate exits, and Baghdad Avenue then leads west into the Salmabad blocks.
Ramli Mall stands beside Shaikh Zayed Highway and is a useful marker if you are starting from the older lanes nearer the burial mounds. Send a WhatsApp message to +973 3822 4822 for the map location.
Queues on Shaikh Zayed Highway, tight lanes in the old village
Shaikh Zayed Highway through A'ali carries heavy traffic. It has been the subject of an expansion scheme in which the roundabouts along it, the Pottery Roundabout among them, are being removed and replaced by traffic signals, and average waiting times at peak hours have been reported as running from half an hour to forty minutes. A car that spends that long creeping and idling works its brakes, its cooling system and its battery much harder than the odometer suggests, and engine oil in a car that idles a lot ages by time and heat rather than by distance.
Away from the highway, A'ali is an old village. The royal mounds of the Dilmun Burial Mounds, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2019, stand inside the town itself, and the lanes threaded between them and the pottery workshops are narrow, with tight corners and close kerbs. That is the sort of environment that scuffs sidewalls and knocks wheel angles out, usually at walking pace and usually without leaving a mark you would notice.
Both patterns point the same way. Look along the tread edges for wear that is heavier on one side than the other, and have the geometry measured if the steering wheel no longer sits straight or the car drifts on a level road.

Questions, answered.
How far is Wagon Wheel from A'ali?
About 2.5 km in a straight line, with the workshop to the north of A'ali. Both A'ali and Salmabad are in the Northern Governorate.
Which roads connect A'ali to Salmabad?
Shaikh Zayed Highway runs east and west across the north of A'ali and meets both Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway and Shaikh Salman Highway. Going north on Shaikh Salman Highway, the Salmabad and Isa Town Gate exits leave you a short distance from Avenue 8.
Does sitting in A'ali traffic really affect the car?
It affects some things more than mileage does. The brakes work on every stop, the battery is charged less efficiently at low engine speeds with the air conditioning running, and oil degrades with time and heat as well as with distance. Tyres mostly suffer from what happens off the highway instead: kerbs, potholes and running underinflated in hot weather.
The steering wheel sits off-centre after driving in the village lanes. Can that be measured?
Yes. Hunter 3D equipment measures camber, caster, toe and the rear thrust angle against the manufacturer's figures for your car, and the readings can be shown to you before and after any adjustment. Pressures are set first and worn steering or suspension parts are ruled out, because angles set on worn parts do not stay set.
