Getting to the workshop
About 1.4 km in a straight line from the workshop on Avenue 8, Salmabad.
Salmabad lies immediately west of Isa Town. From the centre of Isa Town to the workshop is about 1.4 km in a straight line.
Shaikh Salman Highway runs between the two. Baghdad Avenue is the direct link west across it, from the north-western side of Isa Town into the Salmabad blocks, and the Isa Town Gate interchange on the highway is the landmark most drivers describe routes from.
If you are setting out from the Educational Area, Bahrain Polytechnic, the souq or the Bahrain National Stadium, the route is the same: head for the highway crossing on the north-western side of town. A WhatsApp message to +973 3822 4822 will get you the map location.
Planned blocks, speed humps and short trips
Isa Town was laid out as a planned town. The foundation stone went down in December 1963 and building ran on to 1968, so it is a grid of numbered blocks with residential avenues rather than through routes. Those avenues are managed for low speeds, and the Works Ministry has been rehabilitating secondary roads block by block and looking at the speed humps, including whether barriers are needed so existing humps are not overrun. A hump taken at anything more than a crawl loads the suspension and the tyre sidewalls, and over time that is one of the quiet reasons a car starts to pull or to wear one tread edge away.
The town also generates a great many short journeys. Schools, the market, the health centre, the Directorate of Road Traffic and the National Driving School are all inside Isa Town, so many cars here make several brief trips a day and never settle at a steady speed. Short runs are the hardest pattern on a battery, because the charging system does not get long enough to replace what starting the engine took out, and heat shortens battery life on top of that.
Kerbs do the rest. Angled parking outside the souq and around the schools means a lot of low-speed kerb contact, and one solid knock against a kerb is enough to take a camber or toe reading out of specification even when nothing looks bent.

Questions, answered.
How far is Wagon Wheel from Isa Town?
About 1.4 km in a straight line from the centre of Isa Town to the workshop in Salmabad. Salmabad is Isa Town's immediate neighbour on the western side.
Which road do I take from Isa Town?
Baghdad Avenue is the direct link west out of Isa Town, across Shaikh Salman Highway and into the Salmabad blocks. The Isa Town Gate interchange on the highway is the usual reference point.
The car thumps over the speed humps and now pulls to one side. Is that alignment?
It may well be. A pull on a flat, level road and heavier wear on one tread edge both point to alignment, and repeated hump and kerb impacts are a normal cause. Before any angle is adjusted, pressures are set to the figure on your vehicle placard and the steering and suspension are checked for play, because a setting made on a worn part will not hold.
My car only does short trips around Isa Town and the battery keeps going flat. Why?
Short journeys rarely give the charging system enough running time to replace the charge used in starting, and heat accelerates the wear inside the battery. A test under load shows whether the battery itself has lost capacity or whether the charging system is at fault, and it is better done before a morning when the car will not start.
